A group of art curators, invited and moderated by Laura Barreca, will present their projects carried out within prison walls in various cities around Italy. Gathered in Palermo by Fondazione Sicilia, the curators will reflect on different artistic models through which confinement can become a starting point for co-creation processes. From the transformation of detention architectures to the invention of monumental devices capable of integrating, and sometimes transcending, the panopticon.
Francesco Urbano Ragazzi will delve into Adoration, a permanent artwork commissioned in 2022 from artist Pauline Curnier Jardin and developed in collaboration with the Women’s Prison of Giudecca and the Rio Terà dei Pensieri Cooperative. The curatorial duo will recount both the backstage and onstage dimensions of the project, describing a liturgy of art that engages with the dynamics of social inclusion and exclusion.
